About this log

Sketch Roam is a personal on-location drawing log: one city at a time, one stool, one finished page per outing wherever the weather allows it.

What gets recorded here

Each entry is a single drawing session written up the same day, while the light and the annoyances are still fresh. A spot entry records where the stool went, the coordinates, how long the page took, the medium, and what the place was actually like at that hour. A field kit entry is a weighed, priced inventory of what travelled in the bag. A layered process entry takes one drawing apart pass by pass.

How the entries are organised

Everything hangs off the city. Cities are the only real taxonomy here, because where you sat is what changes the drawing: the width of the pavement, whether the light comes off water, whether a market forces you to work standing up.

The district atlas on the homepage is drawn programmatically. Block height is not decoration — it rises with the number of finished sketches logged in that city.

What this site is not

It is not a course, and nothing here is a promise that the same sequence will work for you. It is not a shop; no item is sold, linked with an affiliate tag, or supplied by a brand. If a tool is named, it is because it was in the bag on the day named.

Who writes it

One person, drawing on public ground in cities that are usually too loud for it. Corrections and disagreements are welcome at [email protected]; several entries have already been amended after a reader pointed out a wrong opening time or a shop that had moved.
